Cultivating My Own Quiet Corner of the Web

I love co-hosting the Software Defined Interviews podcast. Not only do I get to meet super cool people, but it’s a social situation where I’m allowed to ask prying questions. (◠‿・)—☆

This episode with Manton Reece, about micro.blog and digital journaling, affected me deeply. The idea of the IndieWeb resonates with me. I didn’t realize that I was craving a quiet digital space where cool people simply share cool stuff, with no public follower counts or ‘likes’ on posts, only genuine interaction. I’ve found that space on micro.blog, it feels like home.

Since this episode, I’ve developed my personal website on micro.blog. It now archives my tech work while also giving me a place to be spontaneous and add personality. I’m following the IndieWeb ‘POSSE’ approach—Publish on your Own Site, Syndicate Elsewhere—so I own my content instead of handing it to a big social platform.

Anyway, this conversation with Manton and Coté inspired all this, and I couldn’t be happier with how it is all going.
